Spore Origins was released last September as a mobile companion to it's beefier, more complex PC counterpart Spore. With a $9.99 price tag and already owning both the full version of Spore and buying the Creature Creator beforehand I decided I was Spore'd out and passed it up.
Flash forward about 11 months and EA has decided to drop it down to the lowest, greatest pricepoint of them all at 99¢. With all of the Spore I've already played I'm unfortunately going to have to pass once again but I'd imagine there are still plenty of people out there who are willing to fork over a buck to give the nearly one year old Origins a try.
Hey guys! Just a quick heads up that Pixel Mine's Underworlds just released a lite version of their hack-n-slash RPG. I've somehow managed to skip playing Underworlds entirely but it's always been on my radar of games to look into. Underworlds pays heavy homage to games like Diablo and looks to be up your alley if you're a dungeon crawler fan. Now with the lite version released there's no excuse to give it a shot. If you try the lite version and are clamoring for more the full version will set you back 99¢.
About a month and a half ago Zenonia ($5.99) hit the app store and ever since then it's been hailed by many as hands down the best RPG available on the app store. People have been gushing about it. It currently boasts a 4 1/2 star average rating on iTunes and it's been compared to such 16-bit legends like A Link To The Past. Sounds good, right? Well if you haven't had a chance to play it now is your chance to get your mittens on the app stores premiere RPG for free. Gamevil, via Tweet then later Press Release, have just announced a lite version of their best seller. Have fun!
Well when the App Store comes out with
approximately 12 million games a week you're bound to skip over a
handful of titles. Even though I wanted to give it a shot Rise of Lost Empires fell through the proverbial cracks and eventually fell off my radar all together. Gameloft must of heard the
whimpers of neglect and decided to put out a free demo. Needless to say I was pleased as punch to hear the news. I downloaded the demo, gave it
a spin and I have to say I was pretty impressed with what I played.
The game is a 2D isometric RPG featuring some pretty nice artwork. The
game, which I didn't expect, has a lot in common with a traditional
RTS; You build cities, manage resources, train units, etc. You can
control individual units or your whole army depending on what you want
to accomplish. The gameplay is extremely simple but was pretty
satisfying to play. Never did I encounter any real "trouble" or
"challenge" but I had a fun time with it none the less. I usually find
that demo's do the opposite effect of what they're trying to
accomplish; Instead of wanting more my thirst for the game is quenched.
Rise of Lost Empires, however, made me want to continue the adventure
and see where it takes me. If you're a fan RPG's as well as "free" then the Rise of Lost Empires demo is definitely worth looking into.
Those hackers are quick. Less than a week after launch and they've
already begun successfully utilizing the extra horse power of the 3GS. First on the chopping block? Emulators, naturally.
They've already got PS1 and GameBoy Advanced running without too many issues and being the crafty folks that they are you can assume more are on their way. They went straight for the big time and have already got the crowning
achievement of the PS1, Final Fantasy 7, running fairly smoothly on the
device. They only issue? No sound, not yet at least.
