I loves me a good mashup and I think this one is worthy of celebration. Minigore, the adorable shooter coming to us by way of Mountain Sheep, has announced a new unlockable character for their upcoming release. Everyone's favorite road raging bear with questionable driving skills is going to make an honorary appearance in the game. We're, of course, are talking about none other than Enviro-Bear of Enviro-Bear 2010 fame. If you're unfamiliar with Enviro-Bear 2010 we first introduced you to the game over here and did an interview with its creator Justin Smith. Here's what we had to say about it before:
I'm sure most
people didn't know what to think the first times they laid eyes on it.
The presentation, for instance, is shockingly bad, the graphics are
crude and looked to have been lifted straight out of the archaic depths
of MS-Paint. When I saw the screens roll in I had a good chuckle but
ultimately didn't think much of it. Throughout the day I noticed
chatter about the game was picking up, surprised by my apparent
miscalculation to check it out the first time around I decided to find
more. Cruising through some forums I came across this trailer , it was then when I became a believer"
Take a look at that screenshot above. Beautiful isn't it? Everything about Enviro-Bear 2010 screams "play me". You've got a
red-eyed raging (presumably alcoholic) bear driving a hatch back in its natural habitat, a
pixelated equally pissed off badger running amuck on the dashboard, a
crude freshly eaten fish skeleton and to top it all off looks like it was made in MS Paint. Love it! If you think the screenshot is awesome wait until you see it in motion:
Ahh! Once I saw that I had to buy it. I don't think I've laughed that
hard while watching a game trailer in my entire life. I bought it and
it plays as you'd expect, pretty terribly. But between the
trailer and the screenshots I don't regret the purchase at all, it puts a smile on my face just thinking about it. You can
safely experience Enviro-Bear 2010 from the confines of this post, but
if you feel the need to purchase it lucky for you it's only 99 cents.
I can't help it! Anytime I see something that resembles slot
car racing my eyes dilate and ears perk up. I haven't the faintest idea why, I have
no fond memories of slot car racing as a kid nor did I own a set. I don't even like the sport of racing for crying out loud! Enough my ramblings, we'll get to the bottom of this another day. What's important now is that DrawRace (99 cents) is out and from the first screenshot I saw I was immediately intrigued. But was it any fun? Will my repressed inner child thank me? Well for 99 cents I was willing to see.
DrawRace was created by the folks at Red Lynx, you might be familiar with their other title Monster Struck Nitro. DrawRace
claims to be the first "Draw and Drive" game of its kind. Instead of
controlling a vehicle during a race you draw its path around the track
then once the race begins it follows the approximation of the line. It
doesn't follow the line pixel by pixel, but follows it as if someone
were behind the wheel. You'll skid and slide slightly off course if you
make too sharp of a curve, for example.
Each race goes by
rather quickly too, from what I played no race lasted more than 30
seconds and it takes maybe 20-30 seconds to actually draw racing line
if you take your time. In all you can get a handful of races in under 5
minutes, its a perfect pick up and play game for a quick fix. While it
races does go by quickly Red Lynx has you covered with 20 maps included
in the game. The player input is minimal but I found myself getting
excited over a close race and mentally preparing to how I'd make my car
go faster next time around. It's a simple formula but a fun one.
The presentation and audio are nicely done, the car physics handle appropriately and with the addition of several multiplayer
modes (including network play and hot seat), plus a handful of maps
it's absolutely worth checking out for the price. I'm not in love with
it but I had a good time with what I played. For 99 cents they give you
a lot of bang for your buck.
Firemint, the developers behind the 99 cent overnight classic Flight Control have let loose their latest project on the app store: Real Racing ($9.99). The high polished racer hit over the weekend and has been receiving near universal praise, particularly for it's impressive graphics, control and depth for a mobile title. I, unfortunately, have yet to get my hands on it, but I am planning on giving it a go later on this evening. If you've given it a shot I'd love to hear your thoughts.
