Aside from a cancelled flight and 100°+ weather at my destination my out of town adventure is going pretty smoothly! Despite my no computer/no office handicap I was able to keep up with today's news fairly closely. I saw a handful of games come out that I think might be worth looking into as well as some new lite versions of already existing titles (plus a dollar deal!). I'll add to this if I see more worth while titles come out this evening. Let me know if there's anything I missed! Check 'em out:
Let's Golf! Lite - A free demo of the highly acclaimed golf game from Gameloft.
Light Wars Lite - A free demo of, you guessed it, Light Wars. Think Geometry Wars for the iPhone.
Eggs from USSR (.99 cents) - "Carefully remastered replica of the most popular video game in the Soviet Russia." Looks great! I love game and watch titles.
The Battle of Pirate Bay (.99 cents) - "They say the best defense is a good offense, so take out the horde
before they reach your base, using the three finest ships in your
armada! The Schooner can catch up to your foes and take them out
quickly. The Frigate has the largest stash of ammo. The mighty Galleon
holds the most powerful weapons, and can devastate any oncoming ship
with a single blow! And finally, in a pinch, let cannonballs take
flight from your base's mighty long range cannon! But don't rely on it
- that kind of power takes time to recharge."
Toki Tori ($4.99 --> $.99): "Push your brain to the limit as you guide Toki Tori through 80
challenging levels spread over 4 mysterious worlds - collecting eggs as
you go. You are armed with an arsenal of different items and weapons
including the infamous Telewarp, Bridge Builder and Freeze-O-Matic!
Combine these to solve each ingenious level - some easy, some
brain-bendingly difficult! Toki Tori pushes the capabilities of your
iPhone/iPod touch with sumptuous graphics and oodles of puzzle polish."

Hey guys, just a quick heads up that I'm going to be out of town
starting today until next Monday (July 6th). I'm not going to be around
working on updates throughout the day like I normally would, but I WILL
be checking my RSS
feed while on the road and will updating via Twitter the biggest
stories of the day. I'm going to have little bit of time in the evenings and
plan on devoting that to doing a review a night. On the chopping block?
MUST. EAT. BIRDS., BigTop 10, Diabolika
and Defender Chronicles. That's the plan at least! So that's about it,
keep an eye out on my Twitter account for the biggest stories and have
a good week!

So here's the scoop! ZeniMax Media, owners of Besthda Softworks
(Oblivion, Fallout 3), have acquired legendary development studio id
Software (DOOM, QUAKE, Wolfenstein). Well what does this
have to do with iPhone gaming? You may recall a couple of weeks ago id
Software, who has been very vocal about their fondness towards the
iPhone, announced their latest mobile project Doom Ressurection, which
we wrote about here . The game is expected to continue it's development
cycle as expected and little will be effected with the acquisition.
Bethesda has also made it public on multiple occasions their interest
in developing a title for the iPhone. They've even gone so far as to
develop rough versions of Fallout 3 for the device, none of which will
never come to light. You can read the full press release here. Scoop...ended.

Those kids at Gizmodo are a clever bunch, they are. They've managed to swindle an exclusive post written by Bill Nye explaining the iPhone 3GS's new oleophobic screen. A pretty brilliant idea if you ask me. Instead of trying to explain it myself here's a brief excerpt of the post:
The new 3GS iPhone has a coating that helps you leave no, well
hardly any, prints–-fingerprints. The glass screen is coated with a
polymer, a plastic that human skin oil doesn't adhere to very well.
People in the chemical bonding business like to call the finished
surface "oleophobic."
Such a lovely Greek cognate may sound like it means "afraid of oil."
And, it does, but it also connotes (or carries with) "aversion" or
"not-like-to-be-around-tivity," if I may. Instead of sticking to the
bonded-plastic surface of your new phone, the oil from you fingers or
cheekbone or tip of your nose stays more or less together as its own
smooshed droplet.
There's plenty more where that came from! For the full write up head on over to Gizmodo.
