G4 has got the extremely vague "deets" from Namco Bandai that Pacman Championship Edition will be coming to the App Store later on this year. "Later this year" in console gaming is no big deal, but in App Store talk that might as well be an eternity. No word yet on how different it will be from the highly acclaimed Xbox Live Arcade version or how you'll control the game. If you've spent any amount of time with Championship Edition before you'll know there's plenty to be excited about. If you haven't gotten your mittens on it before let me tell you; Uhh, there's plenty to be excited about. This is going to be a great addition to the App Store, can't wait.
Shark themed game released during the sharkiest weeks of all weeks, Shark Week? Happy coincidence? Or a calculated effort? Regardless of intention, it's timely! Gameprom adds another fantastic pinball game to their roster with the release of The Deep Pinball. You might remember Gameprom from their previous effort, Wild West Pinball (99¢), which hit the App Store back in early April.
Wild West Pinball, of the pinball games I've played from the App Store, is at the absolute top of my list. The physics are great and the overall package has a nice authentic feel to it. The Deep looks to carry on same formula with another high polish simulator with emphasis on realism. If you're a pinball fan you can pick this one up for only a buck. Oh yeah, and if you haven't seen it yet be sure and check out their pretty snazzy trailer they released last month:
I've had fantasies about many, many things before. Unfortunately none of which have
included the likes of pinball machines. But for those of you who HAVE gone
down that dark windy road the recently released Pinball Fantasies
($5.99) might be right up your alley. Not familiar with Pinball
Fantasies? Cowboy Rodeo, the developers behind the project, explain:
Pinball Dreaming: Pinball Fantasies is the official iPhone version of
the classic Amiga pinball arcade simulator originally released in 1992
and is the successor to the wildly popular Pinball Dreams!
It
features the 4 original tables with remastered graphics and yet again
comes with 100% of the original addictive game play. The game can be
played in both portrait and landscape orientation.
NimbleBit, the chums behind Scoops and Sky Burger, have released their latest effort onto the app store today. Moon Drop's the name, safe landings the game. Moon Drop is an inertia games that puts you in control of the thrust of a series of falling space pods. Depending on how much, or how little, thrust you give it and in what direction you'll either be coming in for a nice, safe landing (good) or you'll come crashing down (bad). Each pod crash will cost you one astronaut life, of which you have 3. Not much for words? Check it out in moving picture form:
Admittedly I haven't spent too much time with it yet as it just came out but so far it looks to be everything a 99¢ game should be. It's fun, the mechanic is simple to grasp but a little tricky to master. The art direction compliments the gameplay and overall I'm having a great time with it. If this seems up your alley be sure and check it out!
Hey guys, just a quick heads up! Capcom has put up a lite version of their 8-Bit classic Mega Man II. They released the full version back in March for $4.99 and its received pretty favorable reviews, it currently has a 3 1/2 star rating on iTunes. The port has been rebalanced to feature more forgiving controls, scaled-down enemies and an auto-fire option. If you want to remain faithful to the classic you can turn off the feature and play with its original settings. If you download the demo you'll find yourself playing through the entire woodman stage with the Blue Bomber. Enjoy!
