Asteroid BBQ is free, free, free! For a limited time only.

It's funny. Games that normally fly under my radar and are ultimately forgotten suddenly get a resurgence of life as soon as they go on an insane sale or are offered for free. Suddenly you start telling your friends to give it a shot, they start rising in the charts, the game gets more face time and fun is had by all. Welcome to another one of those occasions!

Asteroid BBQ, previously 99¢, most closely resembles top down shooters like Geometry Wars. You control a ship on a flat plane, shoot enemies, avoid taking damage and try to last as long as you can while racking up points. The formula is simple but it's fun. Now admittedly I haven't explored everything Asteroid BBQ has to offer, but I don't have to and neither do you. It's free, pick it up and play around until you feel like moving onto something else. That's the beauty of a free download! Have fun.

Doom Resurrection 2.99 sale extended until tonight.

 doomresurrection_logo2.jpg

In honor of QuakeCon Doom Resurrection went on sale for $2.99 during the convention. That's 6 bucks off of their "God damn, I'll wait for a sale" price point of $9.99. They extended the sale that will last until the end of tonight, that's only a few hours left! To be honest I've never been the biggest Doom fan nor am I the biggest proponent of full fledged 3D games on the iPhone, but for this price it's really hard not to finally download it. We've all heard how great it is. Consider it purchased.

Adult Swim's Vending Machine Champ on sale for a buck.

vendingmachinechamp002.jpg

If you've been jonesin' to get your hands on Adult Swim's elusive Vending Machine Champ now is as good of a time as any to get your filthy paws on it. But you better pick it up quick! You've got about 6 hours left, once the weekend's over the sale will be done with. I, for one, plan on taking advantage of the sale. Quite frankly I'm a little sick and tired of vending machines acting they own the place. It's about time we level the playing field. Wish me luck.

Vending Machine Champ: First nationally televised iPhone game commercial?

vendingmachinechampsmall.jpg

Aside from reruns of Small Wonder and Homeboys in Outer Space (don't tell me how it ends!) I'm pretty out of the loop with television. When I do watch it's Tivo'd and I'll be damned if I actually watch any of the commercials. Last night was one of those rare occurrences where I'm watching live television and was unable to fast forward through the ads. I was a little caught off guard when I saw a commercial for Adult Swim's iPhone version of Vending Machine Champ ($1.99).

Adult Swim being what it is gives them the perfect platform to advertise their games on television, but even then I was pleasantly surprised. Then I started thinking, is this the first nationally televised iPhone gaming commercial? With the App Store being as popular as it is I wouldn't be shocked we start seeing more of these pop up. This is the first I'm aware of, have anyone out there seen any others?

Ridiculousness I say! Killa Kitties From Compton released.

killakittiesfromcompton001.jpg

If this one does well I predict a huge onslaught of wacky, nonsensical games hitting the App Store within the next few months, if they're not already on their way. I'm calling it right now, this game is going to be huge. Cat humor is gigantic, it's only a buck and the App Store is the perfect platform for a title like this to get buzz and flourish.

I bought the game and while it delivered a couple of moderate chuckles the gameplay is a bit lackluster. The game is essentially a few minigames that you play one right after another. The games are extremely simple but aren't too satisfying to play. But we're dealing with gangster cats, is the actually game itself really all that important? Nah, not really. My guess is most people will play it once or twice and will put it down after that.

It's interesting to note the developer behind the game, Jason Oda, an extremely talented graphic designer and programmer I've been following for years. Jason has a knack for getting attention with his niche based games, you might recall one of his past projects, The Emo Game, which gained a bit of notoriety many moons ago.
